• Takeover of 60 wind farms with 166 turbines successfully completed
• Output of the onshore portfolio more than doubled to 712 megawatts
• enercity CEO Zapreva: Big step for renewable power generation
The transaction to purchase one of the largest German wind turbine portfolios has been successfully completed: With the closing, enercity has been the owner of 166 wind turbines from the Norderland Group since the beginning of the year. The wind turbine capacity has thus more than doubled at enercity and is now 712 megawatts (MW) in 83 wind farms with a total of 348 wind turbines. In addition, the wind farms have great potential: a large proportion of the 166 turbines are located in so-called wind priority areas and are ideal for repowering.
“With this acquisition, we have come a big step closer to our strategic goals of expanding renewable energies. As early as 2025 we want to generate electricity with 1,000 megawatts of installed wind capacity. By 2030, our electricity generation will have a green electricity share of 85 percent," says enercity CEO Dr. Susanna Zapreva.
Green electricity for around 240,000 households
The newly acquired systems add an annual electricity production of 767 gigawatt hours (GWh) to the previous renewable enercity electricity production. This means that more than half of enercity's power generation already comes from renewable energies. The systems acquired save an additional 920,000 tons of CO2 per year and supply around 240,000 households with green electricity.
The portfolio of the Norderland Group consists of particularly good wind locations, mainly on the East Frisian coast. There are other wind farms in Brandenburg, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. In the future, the systems will run under a newly founded joint operating company. In this company, the Norderland team combines the know-how of the seller with that of enercity Erneuerbare GmbH at its headquarters in Leer. Both teams are deeply rooted in East Friesland and can draw on many years of successful operational and project planning experience.
