Technip S.A. and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. are among six companies interested in bidding for an estimated $2 billion pipeline project for state-run Kuwait Oil Co., or KOC, a person familiar with the plans said.
The project aims to supply various feedstocks to Kuwait's Subiya, Al Zour and Doha power stations via a total of 1,000 kilometers of pipelines.
KOC will later this year invite bids for the project, which covers two engineering, procurement and construction, or EPC, contracts, each for the installation of five to six pipelines that will transport gas, fuel oil or low sulfur fuel oil to the power plants, the person added.
The bid deadline will be on Feb. 7, with contract awards due in May or June next year and project completion anticipated for mid-2013. Daelim Engineering and Construction Co. of South Korea has also expressed interest in bidding for the project, the person said.
Fluor Middle East, a Fluor Corp. (FLR) unit, is KOC's project manager on the pipeline scheme.
