• This project will allow renewable energy to be produced while cutting CO2 emissions as part of the sustainability plan of both companies
TIM and Enel X, a company of the Enel Group dedicated to energy efficiency and innovative energy services, have signed an agreement to install a photovoltaic system at the “La Figuretta” telephone exchange in Pisa in order to produce green energy and cut down CO2 emissions as part of their sustainability plans.
With an installed capacity of 1.3 MWp, the system will be managed for 12 years by Enel X, including all necessary monitoring and maintenance activities. It is estimated that more than 1.63 GWh will be produced annually as a result of this project, with savings of around 740,000 kg of CO2 each year.
By partnering with Enel X, TIM will also be able to produce energy from renewable sources, therefore using less energy from the grid. The 1.63 GWh of annual renewable energy produced will be 100% absorbed for self-consumption by the “La Figuretta” telephone exchange, which will help make the facility more sustainable. In fact, the amount of renewable energy produced by the “La Figuretta” facility in Pisa is equivalent to that required to power a city district or a town of roughly 600 households.
The collaboration between these two companies may even be expanded to include other industrial sites that TIM is planning on developing, making use of Enel X’s extensive range of technical solutions to improve energy efficiency and sustainability.
“With this partnership, we intend to reaffirm our role as leaders in sustainability, committed to ecological transition by playing a strategic role in supporting Italy’s social and productive fabric, from businesses to citizens, and by partnering with large companies such as TIM in order to promote decarbonization when it comes to managing major infrastructure in the country,” said Augusto Raggi, Head of Enel X Italy. “Innovation and digitalization aimed at improving energy efficiency are key to our efforts to accelerate the process of electrifying consumption in a way that benefits the environment and the Italian economy.”
“We must consume less and use renewable energy,” said Maria Enrica Danese, TIM’s Head of Institutional Communication, Sustainability and Sponsorship. “We want to make this change to improve our environmental impact, especially since our company is highly energy-intensive, and to set a positive example and encourage everyone to take action.”
This marks yet another step forward in the TIM Group’s energy strategy, which is to eliminate indirect emissions by 2025 and achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2030. Through this partnership, Enel X is continuing its journey of innovation, supporting electrification and environmental transition in Italy and globally by improving energy efficiency, as well as offering not only energy services but also innovative and digital solutions.
