Saipem and its joint venture partner CTCI Corp have successfully commissioned and started up state-owned PTT’s Nong Fab LNG receiving terminal in Thailand.

Nong Fab LNG receiving terminal is Thailand's second and largest regassification plant and was executed for PTT LNG Company, a subsidiary of PTT. The terminal had offloaded its first LNG from a carrier in June last year.

The PTT-operated facility will be capable of importing 7.5mn metric tons/year of LNG, and also comprises two 250,000-m3 LNG storage tanks and a 6-km trestle unloading unit. Saipem and CTCI began construction in 2018.

PTT is boosting Thailand’s LNG import infrastructure. The company last year signed a 1mn metric tons/year LNG sales and purchase agreement with US-based Cheniere Energy. By 2030, PTT hopes to become a "global player" with 9mn mt/yr of LNG supplies under its management, according to CEO and president Auttapol Rerkpiboon.
