Joint Viking Increases Sea and Air Activity

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has notified companies working on the Norwegian continental shelf that a current military exercise will mean more activity at sea and in the air.

Joint Viking is a military exercise organised by Norway every other year. It is led by the Norwegian armed forces and includes invited participants from Nato and partner nations.

Joint Viking 2023 lasts from 6-16 March, but military activity will also occur in preceding and subsequent weeks.

Both operator companies and the owners of mobile facilities have been informed about the programme by the PSA in identically worded letters. These communications ask the players to assess whether they have activities in areas which could be affected, and to take account of this.
