The Gas and Electricity Markets Authority (“the Authority”) hereby gives notice pursuant to section 6A(5) of the Electricity Act 1989 (“the Act”) that on 20 February 2023 an electricity distribution licence was granted under section 6(1)(c) of the Act to Squire Energy Metering Limited (company number 11437601) whose registered office is situated at Sentinel House, 10-12 Massetts Road, Horley, Surrey, RH6 7DE, United Kingdom (“the Licence”) authorising it to distribute electricity in the area specified in Schedule 1 (attached) for the purpose of giving a supply to any premises.
Under section 8A(2) of the Act, the Authority has modified the standard conditions of the Licence. The modifications (as proposed) are set out in the Notice under section 8A(3) of the Act which we published here: Squire Energy Metering Limited Notice of Statutory Consultation | Ofgem.
The reason why the Authority made the licence modifications is to protect the interests of consumers by:
ensuring that the standard licence conditions applicable to Distribution Services Providers are disapplied in relation to Electricity Distributors to whom the requirements of Section B of the standard conditions do not apply;[1]
regulating Squire Energy Metering Limited’s charges in respect of domestic customers for the use of its distribution system on grant of the Licence; and
imposing requirements on Squire Energy Metering Limited in respect of its creditworthiness and indebtedness on grant of the Licence.
ensuring that Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs) are treated on an equivalent basis to Distribution Network Operator (DNOs) with respect to Bad Debt.
This document is notice of the reasons for the Authority’s decision for the purposes of section 49A(2) of the Act.
