Last Thursday evening, MEYER WERFT once again invited participants to the Evening of Apprenticeships after a two-year break due to Corona. The evening, which is offered by the shipyard instead of the Girl's Day/Future Day, was very well received: 175 stu-dents from eighth grade onwards took the opportunity to get a comprehensive insight into the working world of the shipyard.

The groups of students were welcomed in the shipyard's large auditorium by training manager Erwin Siemens. "Building modern cruise ships is a team effort for which we need well-trained specialists. That's why we are very pleased about the many interested students who want to find out about an apprenticeship or dual course of study with us," said Siemens. He then provided information about the apprenticeships at MEYER WERFT and the partner companies ND Coatings and EMS Maritime Services.

But the practical side of things was not neglected either: In the training centres, the ap-prenticeship professions were presented on the basis of projects. In the area of construc-tion mechanics, for example, a part of a ventilation duct and a pipe fitting of a hot/cold water supply for a ship's cabin could be manufactured. And participants were also able to try their hand at electrical engineering: The students were able to make their own bottle opener from protective conductor cables or test the automated sorting system.

In the run-up to the event, cooperation agreements were signed with Gymnasium Pa-penburg and Mariengymnasium. MEYER WERFT already cooperates with several local schools for joint career orientation projects. With the two Papenburg high schools, the number of cooperation partners has increased to 16 schools.

There are still vacant apprenticeship positions in the MEYER Group for the start of train-ing in September 2023 and 2024. Information on the apprenticeships is available at www.meyercareer.com. Applications are also possible there.
