Ilmatar is growing steadily and invests strongly in communications, marketing and sustainability with a new leader.

Ilmatar Energy has appointed M.Sc. Vilma Wiitakorpi-Björkman as VP, Communications, Marketing and Sustainability. Vilma has an extensive background and expertise in communications for international, Finnish-listed companies. Before moving to Ilmatar, Wiitakorpi-Björkman was responsible for Helen Group’s communications. She will start at Ilmatar on April 14, 2023.

– Since Ilmatar is growing rapidly and the energy sector is constantly changing, we need to invest even more robustly in communications, raising awareness and sustainability. As the company grows, the importance of these will grow, and more will be expected of us in this regard. It’s great to have someone joining us with experience in similar tasks, both within the energy sector and outside of it, says Juha-Pekka Weckström, CEO of Ilmatary Energy Ltd.

Wiitakorpi-Björkman is experienced in developing the communications unit into a central part of the company, and supporting the implementation of an organizational communications strategy. In addition, she knows the different aspects of brand marketing and sustainability inside and out.

She has a strong, successful track record of working with both listed and family-owned companies, as well as municipal entities. Wiitakorpi-Björkman has previously worked at Helen, Uponor, Ensto and Kemira, among others.

– I am excited to start working in a high-growth company that looks set to be a key player in the future. The production of clean energy plays a central part in the development of the energy sector, as well as in society in general. It’s the only right direction. In my new position, I will be able to utilize my previous experience in building functional teams and developing an open communication culture, both internally and externally. I look forward to meeting my new colleagues and cooperating with different parts of the organization, says Vilma Wiitakorpi-Björkman.
