The Ence biofactory in Navia has successfully revalidated the “Zero Waste” environmental seal certification granted by AENOR to those organizations that manage their waste more efficiently and are capable of valuing it.

These facilities have repeated, for the fourth consecutive year, the results that made them worthy of recognition for the first time in 2019, and that make Ence’s Asturian biofactory a paradigm of responsible use of resources and circular economy.

The verification process carried out aims to guarantee the recovery, through reuse, recycling or through energy recovery, of the waste generated in the plant, thus avoiding its transfer to landfills. Traceability of the entire process is also guaranteed.

In this way, it is clear that the efficient management of the plant’s waste not only prevented these materials from ending up in landfills, but that they have been reintroduced into its value chain, giving them a new life.

In fact, the activity of the Ence biofactory in Navia is an example of a contribution to the circular bioeconomy: throughout the pulp production process, the plant operates with materials of natural and renewable origin, such as wood, to supply recyclable and biodegradable products from its cellulose.

At the same time, Ence’s facilities in Navia are capable of generating the renewable electricity they need from biomass using lignin, a component of wood that constitutes an excellent renewable and natural biofuel, and forest residues from the process.

In addition, the biofactory has renewed the ISO 9001 certification for quality management systems and ISO 45001 for occupational health and safety management systems.

All of this demonstrates the company’s commitment to the circular economy model, while demonstrating its firm commitment to sustainability and caring for the environment and people.
