We are delighted to announce Richard Gormley has joined Habitat Energy as CTO as the business marks a major milestone in our global expansion, with over 1GW of contracted assets across Australia, the UK and the US.
Richard joins Habitat Energy from Mercuria, where his role spanned technology, data science, gas and power trading and compliance. Previous roles included tier one investment banks. His wide-ranging expertise will be invaluable as the business continues to scale and enter new markets around the world.
In his role as CTO Richard will help to drive our strategic growth, ensuring we continue to deliver market-leading optimisation services to our clients globally, underpinned by best-in-class technology and trading tools designed specifically for battery storage and renewable energy assets.
Growth in renewable and energy storage capacity is accelerating around the world as countries respond to energy security concerns, rising fossil fuel prices, and the urgent need to tackle the climate crisis.
Habitat Energy is helping investors and asset owners to deploy these solutions profitably at scale, combining the latest techniques in machine learning and artificial intelligence with expert human traders and deep knowledge of battery storage and renewable energy assets to provide a fully integrated, end-to-end optimisation service.
We recently announced a new framework agreement with Gresham House Energy Storage Fund plc in the UK, taking our global portfolio of contracted battery storage and renewable energy assets to over 1GW, a major milestone for the business as we work to deliver a low carbon future.
Andrew Luers, CEO of Habitat Energy explained: “The energy industry is changing before our eyes and Habitat Energy is at the forefront of this transition. The role of CTO is absolutely critical for our continued growth and success and we are delighted to welcome Richard to play this role on our team. Richard’s deep experience of energy, trading and technology will be pivotal as we grow the business worldwide and is a great complement to our already very talented and experienced team.”
Richard added: “Habitat Energy has been a pioneer from the outset and that culture of innovation and problem-solving – resulting in their acknowledged position as market leaders – is what first attracted me to the company. There’s no room to stand still in this industry, and as CTO I’m looking forward to working with our incredibly talented team to grow our capabilities and reputation as a world-leading optimiser of battery storage and renewable energy assets.”
