Under the patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Mr. Hayan Abdul-Ghani, the Maysan Oil Company and a coalition of international companies celebrated the launch of the gas investment and processing project in the Halfaya oil field in Maysan Governorate, with a capacity of 300 cubic feet (one million standard cubic feet per day).
The Undersecretary for Distribution Affairs, Mr. Ali Maaraj, said that the project aims to treat the gas associated with oil extraction.
And converting it into useful energy to supply electrical power production stations (Amara Gas Station and Maysan Investment Station), indicating that gas investment projects are of interest to the government and the ministry. While the representative of the coalition of contracting companies said that the joint management uses modern technology in projects, and implements and completes them within the agreed upon plans, praising the cooperation of the Iraqi national effort, Petronas, and Total Energy, stressing that the project will be completed in early 2024.
For his part, the Director General of the Maysan Oil Company, Mr. Hussein Kazem Laibi, said that the great efforts provided by the Chinese companies PetroGina and CNOOC and their supporting parties are appreciated, pointing to the project’s contribution to extinguishing five fire flares that were burning the gas associated with the oil, and thus reducing Environmental pollution and converting it into useful energy to supply electric power stations and all gas-related industries.
While the Governor of Maysan, Mr. Ali Dawi, praised the efforts of the Ministry, the national effort, and international companies contributing to the implementation of this large project, which provides large quantities of gas to operate electric power stations, and cooking gas for local use, and enhances investment opportunities in the governorate.
