Independent hydrocarbon producer Perenco Congo and Congorep, a joint venture (JV) between Perenco and the Republic of the Congo’s National Oil Company (NOC), the Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC), have completed a successful 3D seismic acquisition campaign off the Central African country’s coast.
The campaign is specifically engineered to explore the geology within the pre-salt layer, situated at depths ranging from 2,000 meters to 3,000 meters.
It is primarily concentrated on the Tchibouela II, Tchendo II, Marine XXVIII, and Emeraude permits, all located in the offshore region of the Republic of the Congo.
“The data collected during this campaign is now undergoing processing, after which it is expected to enable both Perenco Congo and Congorep to achieve further exploration success in the region,” stated Stéphane Barc, General Manager of Perenco Congo and Congorep, adding, “The campaign demonstrates Perenco Congo and Congorep’s commitment to the continued exploration of new oil opportunities in the Republic of Congo, while ensuring responsible and sustainable practices with respect to the marine environment.”
The seismic campaign comes as a result of hydrocarbon reservoirs being discovered on neighboring permits in the Central African country, delivering full seismic coverage of the area using a 6,000m-long cable array with a rotation radius of 4km.
