J-Wind Co., Ltd., the wholly owned subsidiary of Electric Power Development Co., Ltd. (J-POWER, headquartered in Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Kanno) has completed renovations (facility upgrades) at the New Sarakitomanai Wind Farm located in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido. Commercial operations began on December 16, 2023.
Sarakitomanai Wind Farm first began operating in December 2001. The wind turbines were
upgraded from nine (individual output: 1,650 kW) to four wind turbines (individual output: 4,300
kW). This wind farm, one of the largest in Japan, began operations under the new name: the New
Sarakitomanai Wind Farm. We will continue to make effective use of wind resources due to
favorable wind conditions throughout the year, while coexisting with the local community.
With the start of the New Sarakitomanai Wind Farm, J-POWER’s wind power generation
business segment has a total output of 766,192 kW in Japan from 29 sites (22 in operation, one
being updated, four under construction, and one planning facility replacement). The total output of
the nine sites in Hokkaido Prefecture in operation is now 210,682 kW.
Based on our experience and track record operating wind power plants throughout Japan, we are
progressively updating older equipment. J-POWER Group will continue working on the
sustainable development and steady operation of wind power generation and other renewable
energy projects to achieve carbon neutrality, as stated in the J-POWER BLUE MISSION 2050 in
February 2021.
