French independent green energy operator VALOREM announced that seven of its photovoltaic solar projects totalling 300 MW, located in Thessaly, received Environmental Terms Approval (ETA) from the Greek Ministry of Energy and Environment. These projects are part of a large-scale solar photovoltaic project that will be implemented in an area of 362 hectares, with a combined capacity of 360 MW in the region of Larissa.

The Farsala solar energy complex will consist of 11 photovoltaics solar projects and will provide 550 GWh of clean energy covering the needs of approximately 40 000 households. The electricity produced from each PV project will be transferred via Underground Medium Voltage Lines to a new substation, which is also environmentally permitted and is proposed to be constructed by VALOREM at “Skotoussa” location, in Farsala Municipality. This substation will serve the grid connection of all the projects the company is developing inside Farsala Municipality.

Farsala solar energy complex will be the largest solar PV facility of VALOREM in Greece. Environmental approval has already been obtained for approximately 350 MW (ETA obtained for 50 MW of 3 projects earlier this year) and grid connection offer application has been submitted.

VALOREM is working closely with local authorities (agricultural, archaeological, forest authorities of Larissa, and the Department of Protected Areas of Thessaly) to ensure that the projects will have a positive impact on the environment and the community. VALOREM has fully integrated the conservation of ecosystem biodiversity into its development, and takes into account the preservation of the local population of birds.

“We are very pleased to have achieved environmental authorisation for these projects, a milestone that demonstrates VALOREM’s active positioning in Greece and the dedication of our local team. As a responsible renewable energy provider, we evaluate environmental and ecological impacts of every project we develop. The approval of our Environmental impact assesment allows us to move ahead with our large-scale solar project, that will contribute to the Greek’s energy mix decarbonisation.».
