Fortescue, a global green technology, energy and metals company, has selected Te´cnicas Reunidas to execute a competitive FEED (Front End Engineering Design) for the development of a green hydrogen and ammonia production plant in the Nordgulen Fjord.
The project includes a 300 MW hydrogen production plant, consisting of multiple electrolyzer modules; a green ammonia production plant with a nominal capacity of 675 tpd (tonnes per day); and ammonia storage and water treatment facilities.
This development will involve more than 70,000 hours of highly qualified chemical engineering and confirms Te´cnicas Reunidas’ commitment to the Energy Transition and its TRACK initiative.

Fortescue, a global green technology, energy and metals company, has selected Te´cnicas Reunidas to execute aFEED (Front End Engineering Design) for the Holmaneset project, consisting of the development of a green hydrogen and ammonia production plant.

Fortescue is a multinational company specialized in metal mining and green energy projects, ranking as the world’s fourth largest iron ore producer. The Holmaneset project is part of its strategy to become one of the world’s largest supplier of green hydrogen and green ammonia.

The project, to be implemented off the coast of the Nordgulen fjord in the western part of Norway, includes a 300 MW hydrogen production plant consisting of multiple electrolyzer modules; a green ammonia synthesis plant with a nominal capacity of 675 tpd (tonnes per day); facilities for ammonia storage, water treatment and marine infrastructure including an import-export port and a water subsea pipeline.

It is estimated that Te´cnicas Reunidas will execute more than 70,000 hours of chemical engineering with high added value.

The Spanish company will deliver a FEED together with a binding proposal for the transition to an EPC (“Engineering, Procurement and Construction”) contract for the execution of the project.

This project confirms the intensification of the energy transition and decarbonization activities that Te´cnicas Reunidas has undertaken in recent years. This initiative has been reinforced through TRACK in the last 12 months.

A strategic project
The Holmaneset project will result in one of Norway’s most important green energy facilities and is considered to be strategic for the country’s energy transition.

Its production will be destined both for the domestic market in Norway and for other European countries, in order to contribute to the decarbonization of companies that need to accelerate this process and to promote the development of a continental green energy market.

The availability of hydroelectric power for the operation of the plant not only ensures its green nature, but also offers greater security and stability with respect to energy from other renewable sources.
