Iraqi Oil Ministry Announces Near Opening of North Refinery in Baiji

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil praised the national effort of the Northern Refineries Company and its supporting bodies, after the national staff was able to rebuild the Northern Refinery in Baiji in record time, with a refining capacity of (150) thousand barrels per day, which it is hoped will be opened soon.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Refining Affairs, Mr. Hamid Younis, said during his field inspection and follow-up of the North Refinery Reconstruction Project in Baiji, Salah al-Din Governorate, today, Monday, January 15, 2024, that the company is putting the final touches to the completion of the North Refinery Reconstruction Project, which was subjected to vandalism and destruction to the extent of ( 90%).

The Undersecretary indicated the government and the Ministry’s keenness to reconstruct this refinery, which represents a challenge and an important addition to national production, and contributes to covering an important part of the local needs of citizens, industrial facilities and electric power stations.

Younis pointed to the great role of the Prime Minister in supporting the ministry’s efforts in accelerating the completion of the reconstruction stages and restoring life to the refinery, through his diligent follow-up, in addition to the follow-up of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and the Minister of Oil, expressing his hope that the project will be opened during the next few period.

The Director General of the Northern Refineries Company, Mr. Adnan Muhammad Hammoud, gave a brief explanation of the technical and engineering preparations for the trial operation of the refinery.
