In 2023, 697,865 m³ of LPG were produced, surpassing the previous record of 684,081 m³, set in 2022. This value corresponds to more than 27 million 13 kg cylinders.
The Petrobras Gas Treatment Unit in Caraguatatuba - UTGCA, located on the north coast of Sao Paulo, broke, in 2023, an annual record for LPG production (liquefied petroleum gas, cooking gas), with 697,865 m³ (361,110 tons ). To give you an idea of ??this number, it is equivalent to more than 27 million 13 kg gas cylinders.
This record closes a year of good results for the unit. In July, the monthly production record was surpassed, with 72,442 m³ (37,446 tons). The previous record was 36,409 tons, recorded in October 2022. Also in July, UTGCA reached the highest historical daily processing proportion in the pre-salt layer, reaching 73%.
"This record is due to the better use of longer chain hydrocarbon streams. In other words, this means that the unit received a more suitable gas to form LPG and also worked with a more optimized setting for the formation of this product", explains the executive manager of the Gas Processing area at Petrobras, Wagner Felicio.
The processing units receive gas from offshore platforms, both Pre-Salt and Post-Salt, from pipes called flow routes, which connect the production fields at sea to the units on land. After treatment in the processing unit, this gas is separated into three products: natural gas, the lighter portion of the mixture; LPG (cylinder gas); and C5+, the heaviest portion, being an intermediate product whose processing is completed at the Henrique Lage Refinery - Revap, in São José do Campos (SP).
The increase in the proportion of pre-salt gas in the unit's processing brought important benefits to production. The improvement in the use of processing assets contributes decisively to Petrobras' oil and gas production and to a greater supply to the market.
