Kuststad 2025 is a comprehensive urban development project in Trelleborg, where climate neutrality is one of the guiding principles. Trelleborgs Energi, with the support of the Swedish Energy Agency and together with Granitor and Serneke, will develop an innovative energy concept for the new district. The goal is to create a unique energy solution based on a combination of low-temperature district heating, solar cells, batteries and hydrogen storage. Rejlers has previously delivered a pre-study and is now also participating in the next step: a feasibility study for the project.
More than 7,000 homes will be built, and major investments are being made in business and infrastructure in Trelleborg's largest urban development project ever - Kuststad 2025. The goal is to make the sea accessible, while creating a modern and completely climate-neutral district.
In the first phase of the project, Västra Sjöstaden, in a property jointly owned by Granitor and Serneke, a unique energy concept is planned that is based on balancing and optimizing different types of power and energy sources. The energy system consists of several parts: electricity production with solar cells, energy storage in battery storage and local hydrogen production where the generated residual heat is utilized in a new low-temperature district heating network.
Rejlers has previously supported the project partners in the development of a pre-study with an overall risk analysis. The project is now entering the next stage, a feasibility study, which will be completed in the first half of 2024 and form the basis for future investment decisions and permit processes.
The study will include an in-depth risk analysis and places great emphasis on optimising control systems, investigating energy balancing and possible business models. The study also includes the development of a comprehensive system solution for the local district heating network.

The new district of Västra Sjöstaden in Trelleborg comprises approximately 1,800 new homes, two preschools and commercial space. The first block is scheduled for occupancy at the turn of the year 2025/26.
