Pere Margalef-Valldeperez, Snam's Director of Decarbonization Technologies, has been appointed as industry representative of the Governing Board of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, joining RWE, Airbus, Salzgitter and Helbio. The partnership is a public-private partnership that supports Research & Innovation activities in hydrogen technologies in Europe. Its aim is to scale up the development and deployment of the European value chain for safe and sustainable clean hydrogen technologies, strengthening its competitiveness. The Partnership is made up of three members: the European Union (represented by the European Commission), the industrial community (represented by Hydrogen Europe), and the scientific and academic community (represented by Hydrogen Europe Research).

The Clean Hydrogen Partnership was founded in November 2021 as the successor of the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (FCH 2 JU). The funding for R&I activities comes from Horizon Europe, the European Union's framework program for research and innovation from 2021 to 2027. Throughout the period, the Partnership will receive €1 billion through public funding, augmented by at least an equal amount of private investment from partnership members, bringing the total spending to more than €2 billion euros.

The Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s research and innovation efforts are generally guided by the EU's Hydrogen Strategy and relevant regulatory changes, through the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda which contribute to its implementation. It covers the whole supply chain from clean hydrogen production, hydrogen transmission, distribution, and storage, to end-use technologies in transportation, buildings, and industries. The Partnership also initiated the hydrogen valley concept and benefited from an extra €200M from RePowerEU to double the number of valleys in Europe by 2025.

Pere earned his master’s in science and PhD in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California, Irvine in 2011. In 2012, he joined FuelCell Energy Inc. where he helped bringing breakthrough technologies to market. In 2021, he joined Snam to build and establish the ecosystem for advanced research, development, and innovation.

Pere lives in Italy with his wife and twins, Miles and Joules.
