PGE Group and Ørsted have contracted vessels to install the second part of the wind turbines for the Baltica 2 project, one of two phases of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm.

The installation of wind turbines for Baltica 2 was divided into two phases, and the contractor for each phase was selected by separate tenders. The second batch of turbines will be installed by Cadeler, and with this contract PGE and Ørsted have finalized contracts for the installation of the turbines. In early January, the contract to install the first batch of turbines was awarded to Norway’s Fred. Olsen Windcarrier.

Cadeler is a leading global contractor for offshore wind farm construction, maintenance and dismantling work. Originally from Denmark, the company has specialized in turbine assembly for offshore projects for more than 15 years.

PGE and Ørsted have already contracted all the necessary components for the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm, and have signed contracts for the installation of foundations, turbines and cables. The partners have also selected a general contractor for the onshore connection infrastructure. They already have all the necessary building permits. The final step before construction begins will be for investors to make a final investment decision (FID).

Baltica 2 is one of two – along with Baltica 3 – phases of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm. Ørsted and PGE plan to complete construction of the Baltica 2 stage with a capacity of approx. 1.5 GW by the end of 2027, while the Baltica 3 stage with a capacity of approx. 1 GW by 2030. Investors are yet to make a final investment decision (FID). Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will form the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, which will significantly contribute to the transformation of Poland’s energy sector by providing green energy to nearly 4 million households in Poland.
